We Build Secure Embedded OS Platforms for Regulated and Long-Lived Devices

L4B builds secure embedded operating system platforms for medical devices, automotive systems, robotics, aerospace, industrial systems, and other long-lived connected products. With engineering centers in Munich, Germany and Santa Clara, California, we support OEMs and technology companies worldwide.

For more than 20 years, we have specialized in embedded Linux, Android, RTOS, BSPs, kernel integration, middleware, connectivity, security, and long-term platform maintainability. We have productized that expertise into reusable OS foundations designed for deployment, maintenance, security updates, and lifecycle support.

Our Story

L4B Software was founded in 2004 with a focus on embedded Linux for connected and networked devices. From the beginning, our work centered on the operating system layer: board support packages, kernel integration, middleware, connectivity, security, and long-term platform maintainability.

As Android emerged in 2009, we expanded our Linux expertise into custom Android platforms for device manufacturers, consumer electronics, and later automotive infotainment and IVI systems. Our engineering teams helped adapt Android and Linux-based systems to demanding hardware, performance, integration, and lifecycle requirements.

By 2013, automotive systems had become a major focus, including infotainment platforms, digital cockpits, ADAS-adjacent platform software, and software-defined vehicle architectures. We supported OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers with embedded platform engineering, integration, optimization, and production-oriented software development.

Medical and other regulated industries introduced additional complexity: cybersecurity requirements, long product lifecycles, documentation, traceability, risk management, standards-aligned development practices, SBOM workflows, and post-market security obligations. In these environments, the embedded operating system is not just a technical component. It becomes part of the product’s compliance, security, and lifecycle strategy.

Across more than two decades, we repeatedly solved the same hard problems: BSP fragmentation, silicon vendor dependencies, multi-core and multi-OS integration, mixed-criticality workloads, CVE management, OTA readiness, regulatory documentation support, and platform maintenance across many years in the field.

That experience led us to productize our engineering knowledge.

The xTUX family is L4B’s portfolio of reusable embedded OS platform foundations for regulated and long-lived connected devices. It includes MediTUX for medical devices, MedicDroid for Android-based medical platforms, InduTUX for industrial systems, AutoTUX for automotive platforms, and additional domain-specific platforms. xTUX packages L4B’s embedded OS expertise into foundations customers can adapt, validate, and integrate into their device programs. xTUX supports security, OTA update readiness, lifecycle maintenance, multi-OS architectures, and enhanced real-time capabilities for latency-sensitive workloads.

The Team Behind L4B

L4B’s team includes embedded OS experts, Linux and Android platform engineers, RTOS specialists, BSP developers, middleware engineers, cybersecurity specialists, and system architects.
Our engineers work across complex embedded environments where operating systems, firmware, hardware platforms, connectivity, security, OTA updates, and long-term maintenance must come together reliably.
With teams in Munich and Santa Clara, L4B supports OEMs and technology companies with platform engineering, integration, lifecycle maintenance, and compliance-aware development practices.

Why Regulated Device Teams Choose L4B

L4B supports device manufacturers that need more than embedded software development. We help teams build, secure, maintain, and evolve operating system platforms for products that must remain reliable, updateable, and compliance-ready over long lifecycles.

Embedded OS Depth

More than 20 years of experience across embedded Linux, Android, RTOS, BSPs, kernel integration, middleware, hardware enablement, connectivity, and platform optimization.

Complex OS/HW Environments

Support for multi-core, multi-OS, and mixed-criticality embedded architectures where Linux, Android, RTOS, firmware, hypervisors, heterogeneous hardware platforms, and enhanced real-time capabilities must work together reliably.

Lifecycle-First Engineering

Platform architectures designed with long-term maintenance, security updates, CVE handling, OTA readiness, silicon lifecycle changes, and field support in mind.

Compliance-Aware Development

Engineering support for regulated environments, including medical, automotive, industrial, robotics, and aerospace systems where documentation, traceability, risk management, and standards-aligned development practices matter.

Productized Platform Foundations

The xTUX family provides reusable OS foundations for regulated and long-lived connected device programs, reducing the need to start every embedded platform from zero.

Security, Update Readiness, and SLA-Backed Support

Support for secure boot, vulnerability management, SBOM workflows, OTA update strategies, system hardening, and long-term software maintenance.
For regulated and long-lived connected devices, L4B can support defined response and maintenance workflows for security updates, CVE triage, vulnerability remediation, and lifecycle support. These workflows help customers address regulatory-driven obligations such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act, FDA medical device cybersecurity expectations, EU MDR post-market surveillance requirements, IEC 62304-oriented software lifecycle processes, IEC 81001-5-1 health software security lifecycle activities, and industry-specific quality and security expectations.
Where required, support models can include agreed SLAs for vulnerability assessment, update planning, security maintenance, and long-term platform support.

Global Customer Support

Headquartered in Munich, Germany, with a U.S. presence in Santa Clara, California, L4B supports OEMs and technology companies across EMEA, North America, and Asia.
Our engineering teams provide embedded platform development, integration, lifecycle maintenance, and compliance-aware support for regulated and long-lived connected device programs.
